On Documentaries

I watched a documentary today, as part of my new science class. Yes, I did just graduate. Yes, I am taking a class. No, I don’t want to talk very much about it. Its a science class.

The documentary was interesting enough, about the very primitive microbes on the Earth. It was still a documentary though.

One of my friends complained, “it’s not a real documentary unless the narrator is British”. A litblog called This Space has an amusing cut-down of a documentary that says “The documentary itself was irritating, formulaic and horribly padded (”To answer this question we must go to [insert exotic location]“).” Come to think of it, the documentary I watched today used that very same line, several times. It must be one of the perks of the job, as a documentarian, to insert exotic locations into what would otherwise be a paragraph.
