Crosscurrence: Labor, Lapse, and Error

Crosscurrence is a monthly night of readings, performances, and music curated by Andrew Shenker. Performers for the September 2023 edition worked with themes of labor, lapse, and error.

My piece, entitled “Day One at the Airport Motel” described the experience of working as a motel housekeeper, including the mixed perspectives and ephemeral realities of all who pass through an interstitial place like a motel, alongside a highway, near an airport. The spoken word performance was accompanied by found footage video, and music by Ryan Snyder.

I was joined on stage by several other talented performers and groups:

  • Ana Silva
  • Keenon Brice
  • Laura Grothaus
  • Lisa McCray
  • Stephen Strohmeier
  • The Compositions
  • Valeska Populoh and Peter Redgrave

The program was made possible in part by supporting members of Current; the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization; the generous contributions of The Maryland State Arts Council; and the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation.
